AUTHOR'S NOTES

MASKED started out as a pallete cleanser. I was going through a bad case of writer's block with the CATACLYSM series, and started writing a comedy. Chapter 1 was completely written without any prior thought, just a stream-of-consciousness that helped me shape the book that was about to be written.

Momentum is an interesting thing. Once I had an overall idea, I was able to outline the whole story in a day. Then I began writing and before I knew it, I had a whole first draft.

MASKED IS:

A love story.
A super-hero adventure.
Pokes fun at campy super-hero cliches.
A comedy.
Meant to make you think.
Fun ride with chills, thrills, and maybe a tear or two.

Sometimes finding inspiration is hard, especially when it comes to characters. I have a special thank you out there into the ether for actress Jane Levy, whose characters inspired the Tori character—tough, thick skinned, but soft—capable, smart, but somewhat tortured—Jane's performances in Don't Breathe, Suburgatory, Evil Dead, and others, helped to place an archetype of the woman I wanted Tori to be.

If you’re a fan, like me, of classic 80s and 90s rom-coms, from Can’t Hardly Wait to Mannequin, Date With an Angel and Splash, then this book will be your flavor. Set within a world where superheroes soar the skies over every major city, where danger and destruction lurk around every corner, how does one find love?
